The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) is one of the most prominent immigration pathways, opening once a year. It works through a lottery system where the eligible sponsor can fill out a form known as the “interest to sponsor” to be accepted and put in a candidate pool. Upon the selection of the application, the Canada PR holder must apply for the parents or grandparents they are willing to sponsor. It is also required that the individual sponsoring is ready to provide for the medical needs, accommodation, food, and other expenses of the parents/ grandparents. This program offers an opportunity for parents and grandparents to become permanent residents of Canada and also avails them of the social benefits of permanent residents. The processing time for Parents and Grandparents program is 5 to 21 months.
