12 jobs in high demand in Alberta due to COVID-19

Certain occupations in the labour market in Alberta are reporting an increase in demand in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. A study by the Canadian government highlights the jobs in Alberta that have actually increased in demand during the COVID-19 pandemic. While some occupations had been negatively impacted by the pandemic, others had either remained the same or registered an increase in demand. In flux, the job outlook in Alberta for a prospective migrant is a constantly evolving situation.

As of July 29, 2021, around 65% of eligible Albertans had received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. 75.8% of eligible Albertans had received at least 1 dose of the vaccine. Alberta remains above the national average for full COVID-19 vaccinations, with a higher percentage of individuals fully vaccinated as compared to Germany, France, the United States, among others.

All of the occupations above-mentioned fall under the “skilled work” category. Launched in 2015, the Express Entry system manages the 3 main economic immigration programs of the federal government of Canada. Express Entry invitations are issued through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC]. Of the 401,000 to be welcomed by Canada in 2021, around 60% are to be through economic immigration. IRCC Express Entry target for 2021 stands at 108,500. Another 80,800 are to gain their Canadian permanent residence through the Provincial Nominee Program [PNP]. Alberta is among the provinces and territories part of Canadian PNP. Alberta PNP – officially referred to as the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program [AINP] – offers various Canada immigration pathways for migrants that intend taking up Canada PR and settling within Alberta. A PNP nomination offers a fast-tracked route to Canada PR for an IRCC Express Entry candidate. 600 CRS points are automatically awarded to an IRCC Express Entry candidate that is able to secure a PNP nomination, thereby guaranteeing an invitation to apply in the next federal draw to be held.

So far in 2021, Alberta PNP has invited a total of 2,613 Canada immigration hopefuls to apply for a PNP nomination for permanent residence in Canada through the province.
