The University of Michigan, known also as UMich, or Michigan, is a public university in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Founded in 1817 as the Catholepistemiad, or the University of Michigania, it was relocated to Ann Arbor in 1837 where it was spread over 40 acres.

The university comprises nineteen colleges and offers undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral programs in around 250 disciplines. It has nine professional schools.

Cost of Attendance at the University of Michigan

The cost of attendance at the University of Michigan depends on various aspects like tuition fees for courses and the cost of living at different accommodations.

Scholarships Provided by the University of Michigan 

As of now, the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor does not provide financial aid of any type to foreign students. The scholarship funds for foreign students are also limited. But students can apply for a short-term loan that the U-M Office of Financial Aid sponsors. Otherwise, students can access many other scholarships and financial aid provided in the USA for foreign students.

Work-Study Programs at the University of Michigan

Federal Work-Study (FWS) provides to students who need funds for their education financial aid. Both undergraduate and graduate students can participate in this program and earn money to reduce their educational expenses. The federal government under the Work-Study program pays a portion of students’ wages, with the rest being covered by those who employ students. Things to know while students apply for FWS: 

  • Students need to apply for financial aid if they are to be considered for FWS. 
  • To qualify for FWS, students need to get Work-Study money on their Financial Aid Notice and have to be registered in a program
  • When students apply for Work-Study positions, they need to demonstrate to potential employers their Financial Aid Notice’s copy. 
  • Students can earn salaries up to the amount stated on their Notice. Work-Study earnings are not shown on the university eBill of the students. 
  • If you reject your initial Work-Study offer, the Office of Financial Aid will not be in a position to restore it.
