People who have a flair for learning languages can obtain jobs in foreign countries as it is a highly globalised world today. Of course, if they are proficient in English too, they will get jobs as interpreters or translators.
Technology, on the other hand, has enabled more people to learn foreign tongues through e-learning. It also has online video chat sessions for enthusiastic learners of foreign languages.
Zenobia Irani, founder-director of InAWord centre for languages, Chennai, was quoted by The Times of India as saying that the ways of learning are changing as more people are becoming foreign language teachers online. Even students are more comfortable learning languages through video sessions, she adds. This is an attractive way of picking up languages for people who are hard pressed for time to attend classes.
Nivedha V, who is working with Alliance Francaise in Chennai, says that with language proficiency alone, people can acquire educational qualifications without the need to pursue conventional undergraduate courses. She adds that language proficiency lets students earn postgraduate degrees with which they can secure jobs. She feels that a tourism degree with language skills is a nice combination as well.
Meanwhile, many students enrolled in Germany are also working there and acquiring language skills. Lately, French and Spanish have become popular too. So, people who feel that technical skills are not up their alley can pursue such careers.
