Western Australia is launching direct flight to India from next year with the aim of boosting tourism. It can be expected from its capital Perth to Mumbai or Delhi. Tourism Western Australia Director Andrew Oldfield said that we have many attractions for travelers. These include customized Indian foods, excellent wine & food, great wildlife, beaches, and natural beauty, he said. He was briefing a delegation of Indian journalists visiting the State.
The time zone of India and Western Australia is different and has a variation of 2.5 hours. It is similar to Malaysia and Singapore. These 2 are the destinations for Indians for a honeymoon, as quoted by the Hindu Businessline.
Australia received 3.35 lakh tourists from India in 2017 and earned 1.5 billion AUD (7,600 crores plus). 28, 000 Indian tourists arrived at Western Australia as it earned 17 million AUD (87 crores plus).
Currently, Indians reach Perth flying mainly through Malaysia and Singapore. The WA Government anticipates that a direct flight will help in the arrival of more Indian travelers. This will also reduce the flying time from 15 hours to 8.5 hours in a direct flight from Perth to Mumbai. The current flying time includes stopovers.
Meanwhile, the business viability of a direct flight to Perth is being explored by Air India. At present, AI has only one direct flight to Melbourne and Sydney.
Oldfield said that we have launched a special program for training more than 3,700 Indian travel agents. 18 Tourism Operators are arriving at Perth for the cricket match between Australia and India he added. They will also get accustomed with the city, said Oldfield.
