Vancouver is leading as the largest rising tech market across Canada and the United States as per a recent CBRE report. Vancouver upsets Seattle from the top spot by climbing 27 spots with a job growth rate of almost 30%. The tech growth rate is amazing since Vancouver only had a growth rate of around 2.7% between 2015 and 2016.
Vancouver has created 13,600 new high-tech software and service jobs in the past two years. That represents almost 55% of all new office jobs created in the city.
Raghwa Gopal, CEO of Innovate BC, says that Vancouver always had a very high talent pool. This aspect is extremely attractive to companies moving to the city.
Toronto continues to maintain its reputation as a major tech market in North America. The city recorded a job growth rate of 23.9% between 2017 and 2018. Toronto also added 30,200new tech jobs.
Montreal in Quebec created about 8,800 new tech jobs with a job growth rate of around 11.4%.
The CBRE report also forecasted that Ottawa and Waterloo are the next tech markets people should watch out for. The tech industry in Canada is booming, and hence the need for skilled tech workers is at an all-time high.
If you have a tech background and wish to migrate to Vancouver, there are a few options that you can consider.
British Columbia launched the BC Tech Pilot in 2017 to address the growing demand of tech workers in the province. To be eligible, you should have a job offer from the province in any one of the 29 eligible in-demand occupations.
If you do not have a job offer, you can consider applying through IRCC’s Express Entry Program. You do not need to have a job offer to apply under the Express Entry Program. It is a great option for techies who have at least one year of work experience with good language skills in either English or French.
