The UK Visa plans that have been revealed in the White Paper of the Government will benefit Indian workers and students. It outlines the strategy for UK immigration and visas in the post-Brexit period. The focus will be on the skills of the immigrants and not their nation of origin.
The future immigration system of the UK will be skills based. The proposals were tabled by Sajid Javid the Home Secretary in the House of Commons. It removes any ceiling on highly skilled immigrants from any nation. The UK Visa plans also include improvement in the Post-study Work Visas offered to the overseas students.
The proposals are outlined to be phased from 2021 December. The proposed transition period of the UK with the EU will end at this juncture. The UK Visa plans intend to level the immigration playing field as the free movement of EU people will end.
Outlining her foreword to the strategy, UK Prime Minister Theresa May said that the free movement with EU will end. We are taking an approach that is based on skills to ensure that we can attract the best and brightest immigrants to the UK, she added.
A new 12 month UK Visa will also be launched for workers at any skill level, as quoted by the NDTV. This is for provisional period permitting businesses to recruit the workers they require on a time-bound basis.
The UK Home Office said that people arriving through the Provisional Visa will not be able to be accompanied by family members. Rights to settle in the UK will also not be accrued to them, added the Home Office. They will also possess a 12-month cooling off period upon expiry of their visas, it said.
