Amidst the shortage of health workers in the United Kingdom, the National Health Service (NHS) Trust of the country plans to recruit over 100 health professionals from India.
Following a recruitment trip to Kerala, 107 medical staff, including 97 registered nurses and ten allied health professionals, has been offered by The York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The trust has already started bidding for NHS England funding to support international nursing recruitment from April 2023 to November 2023. It also aims to get 90 international nurses to generate 450,000 pounds in funding.
In January 2023, the trust had a vacancy rate of 11.5 percent for healthcare support workers and registered nurses in adult inpatient areas, the vacancy rate was 14.5 percent.
After foreign nurses joined the trust, the adult inpatient wards’ vacancy rate got reduced to 7.6 percent.
Over the past five years, about 43,000 in the United Kingdom quit their jobs in their country’s early stages. As per the Royal College of Nursing data, about 47,000 nursing posts are vacant in NHS England.
