The AIP is the best option for Immigrants to move to Nova Scotia

A new Immigration Program introduced for Atlantic Canadian employers is a 3-year pilot program that helps in filling labour gaps. The program is called Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP). It will run until December 2019. As quoted by mondaq.com, it might be extended further.

The AIP is presently the best option for Immigrants willing to move to Nova Scotia. Employers will provide them with job offers and settlement support. Canada has confirmed that every year they will accept 2000 applications. Nova Scotia is allotted 1000 applications under this program.

The AIP consists of 3 programs:

  • The Atlantic High-skilled Program
  • The Atlantic Intermediate-skilled Program
  • The Atlantic International Graduate Program

The Atlantic Skilled Workers Program:

The following criteria must be met in order to be eligible for the program -

  • Immigrants must have worked for a minimum of 1 year
  • The work must be paid and in one occupation
  • Immigrants must possess skill level 0, A, B or C of the Occupational Classification list
  • Immigrants must show that they have either a Canadian post-secondary diploma or high school degree

There are a number of advantages of the AIP program for Immigrants. Let’s have a quick look at them -

  • Immigrants’ work experience can be inside or outside Canada
  • Skill level C is usually not accepted by any other Immigration Programs in Canada
  • The minimum language level required to be eligible for the AIP is CLB level 4

The Atlantic International Graduates Program:

Immigrants applying under this category must meet below criteria -

  • They need a minimum of a 2-year degree from a recognized institution in an Atlantic Canadian province
  • Immigrants must have been a full-time student in Canada for at least 2 years
  • They must have lived in one of the Atlantic Provinces for a minimum of 16 months

Overseas Students willing to move to Nova Scotia should avail of this option to attain Canada PR in the future.

Mandatory criteria:

The following mandatory criteria apply to both the programs and employers -

  • Immigrants must hold a job offer from an employer in one of the Atlantic Canadian Provinces
  • The employer must be designated and eligible under the AIP program
  • Employers need to present evidence that they failed to hire a local employee
  • Employers must provide the Immigrants with an individualized settlement plan
