Study in Canada

The international student population in Canada has tripled over the last 10 years. There were 570,000 international students in Canada in 2018.

Canada comes fourth after the US, UK and Australia as the largest host country for foreign students, as per the ICEF.

As per UNESCO, there were 5.3 million international students in 2017. In contrast, there were just 2 million in 2000. It is believed that the number will continue to rise as the middle-class population is growing in emerging markets. With household incomes rising, so is the number of international students.

Why should you choose Canada to study abroad?

The biggest advantage that Canada has over other popular destinations like the US and Australia is that it is cheaper. Even though international students end up paying a higher tuition fee than local students, it is still cheaper than what you need to pay in other popular countries.

Another reason most international students choose Canada is the quality of education. Canada has some of the most reputed Universities and colleges in the world.

Canadian society is also very welcoming towards newcomers. When countries like the US are adopting an anti-immigration stance, it is obvious why international students are choosing Canada over others.

Another advantage that Canada offers is that international students are allowed to work part-time during the course of their study. This helps them support themselves financially while they pursue their studies.

International students are also eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit, which allows you to live and work in Canada after you complete your studies. The validity of the PGWP can be up to three years, depending on the course that you studied.

The Federal Express Entry Program is the most popular immigration pathway to Canada. International students who have studied in Canada get additional points when they apply through the Express Entry Program. Also, there are numerous provincial nomination pathways that are exclusively for international students in Canada.

Research by Statistics Canada shows that Canada is in immense need of immigrants due to its ageing population and low birth rate. The research also shows that international students have better chances of success in the Canadian labour market. Most international students are young, well-educated, have Canadian work experience and are proficient in either English or French. Half of all the international students in Canada look forward to settling down in the country eventually.

Canada also recognizes the fact that international students can benefit smaller communities. Overseas students who live in smaller communities tend to build closer connections. Hence, they are more likely to stay than the ones who have no connection with the community.
