Quebec The Quebec Govt. has pledged $70 million to help immigrants get better access to French lessons. Knowing French will help newcomers to integrate better in the province. Simon Jolin-Barrette, Immigration Minister of Quebec announced the new plan which will helps newcomers learn French. Quebec is a primarily French-speaking province. Hence, knowledge of French helps immigrants successfully integrate into society. The announcement coincides with the release of IRCC’s internal report. The report says that not knowing the official language proves to be the biggest barrier for newcomers. Jolin Barrette says that Quebec earlier provided French lessons to newcomers who have lived in the province for less than 5 years. However, he says that the provision was not sufficient. The new plan has provision for full-time French courses for immigrants. All immigrants would be eligible to take French courses irrespective of the time they have spent in the province, as per CIC News. The CAQ Govt. will extend extra financial assistance to immigrants taking full-time French lessons. Starting 1st  July, immigrants enrolled in full-time French classes will get $181 per week as compared to $141 earlier. The CAQ  Govt. has been amid various reforms for newcomers for some time now. In June, the Govt. passed a new Bill which gave the province more power over the eligibility of Permanent Residence. Bill 9 would allow the province to cancel more than 18,000 visa applications due to which many applicants had to restart their process.
