The immigration for Quebec may rise up to 71,275 new permanent residents in 2022. Last year Quebec has given permanent resident status 50,285 immigrants. Quebec immigration target has to be met because of the pressure that is being exerted by industry and business groups.

Highlights

  • Quebec plans to give permanent resident status to more than 71,000 people.
  • The plan has been made due to pressure from business and industry group.
  • Target of 2020 has not been met.

Quebec Immigration target in 20220

In 2020, Quebec had plans to provide permanent residence to 69225 but only 25,225 permanent residents only can be welcomed and the target fell short by 18,775. Now, the French speaking province has planned to give allotments to those who have not been welcomed in 2020 along with new immigrants.

Number of temporary foreign workers may also increase

Quebec also has plans to invite temporary foreign workers. Last year, roughly 30,000 temporary foreign workers were invited to work in Quebec. The application process will be made simple and several trades and occupations will be added. This will help in the fast-track processing of the applications for the temporary workers.

Business and industry groups and put pressure of doubling the immigration so that the problem of labor shortage can be reduced. The group has asked to welcome 80,000 people every year. Véronique Proulx, president of the Manufacturiers et Exportateurs du Québec, has said that the province should welcome 90,000 people immediately.
