1590 foreign skilled workers will be welcomed in PEI in 2024

Prince Edward Island needs skilled workers and will welcome 1590 foreign workers across various sectors in 2024.

 

The province will allocate 75% of federal immigration nominations aligning with the nine provincial sectors, with a significant focus on nominating skilled workers in healthcare, childcare, trades and other industries facing labour shortages.

PEI PNP Immigration streams

The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) facilitates immigration to Canada for individuals and their families through three streams:

• Prince Edward Island Labour Impact
• Prince Edward Island Business Impact

 

Additionally, PEI offers an opportunity for immigrants to settle down through the joint federal-provincial Atlantic Immigration Program.

PEI’s five priorities framework list

PEI initiated a new plan in the last week of February called “Growing Together: A population Framework for Prince Edward Island” aiming to create sustainable approach to manage its growth.

 

The framework lists five priorities:

• Increasing public services and infrastructure
• Building and retaining the workforce in the province
• Supporting environmental sustainability and supporting land use planning
• Enhancing community
• Long-term reporting and planning

 

This new framework will give the province the right flexibility to adapt to population and other demographic shifts, allowing the public to be given what it needs and appropriately respond to the growth demands.

 

To build a strong and sustainable workforce, the province aims to train individuals who live there and attract highly skilled workers to fill labour shortages and retain them.
