The details of the Northern Ontario Immigration Pilot for aspiring immigrants to Canada have been revealed. Northern Policy Institute’s Chief Executive Officer and President Charles Cirtwill has listed several issues that need to be addressed by the program.
The CEO said that the Northern Ontario Immigration Pilot must address the labor needs of the region. This includes the requirements of the rural communities that are essentially diverse from urban regions, added Cirtwill.
Cirtwill further elaborated on the diverse aspects of the Northern Ontario Immigration. He said that the members of the NPI have found that there are 10 in-demand jobs in Northern Ontario. Out of these, 7 are at the NOC codes D or C and are middle-skilled jobs, he added.
The NOC or National Occupational Classification of Canada administers 30,000 occupations based on skill type and skill level. Occupations at D and C skill levels include low and semi-skilled occupations, as quoted by the CIC News. These include Manufacturing and Primary industries, Trades, and few Assistant and Clerical categories.
The NPI CEO also added that the pilot must also consider the fact that communities in Northern Ontario can have diverse labor needs. This could be Truck Drivers, Office Support Staff, Tourism Staff, or Skilled Trades, said Cirtwill.
The pilot program must accordingly include a diverse range of overseas workers said the CEO. This is while placing a definite ceiling on a particular job classification, he added.
The NPI President also elaborated on the yearly numbers for the Northern Ontario Immigration Pilot. He said that the diverse regions in Northern Ontario need minimum 1,500 fresh immigrants annually. This is to possess a right mix of working age population and dependents, he added.
