In 2016, one in every four non-resident overseas national was an Indian. A report states that about 60% of non-migrant residents belonged to Asian countries. China accounted for almost 15%.

2016 had 2.3 million non-migrant residents consisting mainly of students, workers, exchange visitors, diplomats and others. 2015 had 2 million such residents which were 15% less than in 2016. This was confirmed by a report compiled by the Dept. of Homeland Security.

As per the report, the temporary migrants were in the US for:

  • Tourism

Canada and Japan had about 65 to 70% of temporary workers in theUS and about 20 to 25% of students.

Just like China, Saudi Arabia and South Korea had more international students in the US than temporary workers.
