Canada has held its 32nd draw of 2020. In Express Entry Draw #165 – held on October 14, 2020 at 13:03:22 UTC – another 4,500 Canadian immigration hopefuls have received invitations to apply for permanent residence.

The previous Express Entry draw was held on September 30, 2020.

As no program was specified by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC], candidates from the following programs were eligible for the draw –

Federal Skilled Worker Program [FSWP]
Federal Skilled Trades People [FSTP]
Canadian Experience Class [CEC]
Provincial Nominee Program [PNP]

Launched in 2015, the federal Express Entry System manages the pool of candidates for 3 of the main economic immigration programs of Canada – the FSWP, the FSTP, and the CEC. Of these, the FSWP – targeted at skilled workers looking to work overseas in Canada and settle in the country as well – is the most popular.

The FSTP, on the other hand, is for those skilled in a particular trade. The CEC is for those with prior Canadian experience.

With almost 80 immigration pathways, the PNP of Canada also has various Express Entry linked streams.

Provinces and territories that have Express Entry-linked PNP programs regularly go through the Express Entry pool of candidates, selecting those with the most potential of thriving in their specific province or territory. To be considered for a provincial nomination through the PNP, the candidate would first have to create an Expression of Interest [EOI] profile with the specific PNP.

With a PNP nomination getting an Express Entry candidate 600 CRS points, provincial nomination continues to be the route for Canada PR in 2020.

While the previous 3 draws were also big draws inviting 4,200, the present draw ties with the February 19, 2020 draw in terms of issuing 4,500 Invitations to Apply [ITAs].

The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS] score required was 471, similar to the previous draw.

A tie-breaking rule of September 1, 2020 at 12:11:23 UTC was applied in Express Entry Draw #165. The tie-breaking comes into play when more than 1 candidate has the lowest required score, following which the cut-off is determined by the date and time of their submitting their Express Entry profiles.

Candidates with a CRS of at least 471 that had submitted their profile before the tie-break received an invitation.

With the latest draw, a total of 82,850 ITAs have been issued in 2020 so far, bringing it closer to the target for 2020 as per the 2020-2022 Immigration Levels Plan.

2020 is turning out to be a new record-breaking year for Canada’s Express Entry. Despite COVID-19, the number of ITAs issued so far in 2020 is the highest ever issued to date in a year.
