The Student and Exchange Visitor Program of the Homeland Security Investigations US Immigration and Customs Enforcement revealed the latest statistics, as quoted by the Economic Times.
The report for figures of US overseas students said that 50% of the overseas students in the US with M and F visas were either from India or China. The interest of students from India and China to the US continues to enhance, added the report.
The US F-1 visa is for non-immigrants intending to arrive in the US for language training program or academic studies. The US M-1 visa is for those who intend to arrive for vocational or non-academic studies.
Both India and China witnessed a proportional growth between 1 to 2 % and China sending 6, 305 more students and India sending 2, 365 more students. It is this level of participation from India and China that makes Asia the most renowned continent of origin for US overseas students. 77% of all the overseas students in the US are from Asia.
In spite of the stable growth of arrival of students from the 2 most populous countries, there was a marginal decline in the numbers of students from Asia arriving at the US. This was due to the decline in the numbers of students arriving from Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and Yemen. There was a decline of 9971; 5488, and 396 students respectively from these 3 nations.
