Immigration to Canada resulted in 82% population growth of Canada in Q2- 2018 – 1 April and 1 July. Overseas immigration to the Maple Leaf Nation reached an unprecedented level in this period. It was also the second largest increase for a quarter after 1971, as quoted by the CIC News.
The unprecedented level of overseas immigration in Q2 was beneficial said Statistics Canada. This helped to offset the record figures of death for the quarter with 67, 997 it added. The projected natural increase in the population of Canada was 3rd lowest for a 2nd quarter with 29, 079. (Births subtracted by deaths).
The population of Canada enhanced by 168, 687 in Q2- 2018. Out of these 138, 978 or 82% was owing to overseas immigration.
This level of overseas immigration was never witnessed before in any quarter said Statistics Canada. It was the chief propellant of the growth of the population of Canada in Q2-2018, it added. This was both at the Province and Federal level, it said.
Overseas migratory growth is calculated by adding the number of immigrants. Returning emigrants and net non-PR residents arriving in Canada are also added. Net provisional emigration and departing emigrants from Canada are then subtracted.
Canada welcomed 87, 661 fresh immigrants at the national level in Q2-2018. This was the second largest figure for a quarter after statistics are being maintained from 1971.
The figures of non-PR residents enhanced by 60, 446 in the second quarter. This was substantially higher than witnessed in the recent years. This increase was chiefly attributed to Canada Work Visa holders. They were followed by Canada Study Visa holders and asylum seekers.
