Between July 2015 and June 2016, Denmark saw 76,034 overseas citizens enter its shores. Figures revealed by Statistics Denmark revealed that 1,113 fewer people than the previous four years had entered the country.
The Local was quoted as saying that this was the first time in five years that the number of immigrants to Denmark has declined. According to Statistics Denmark, this is happening because immigration from Syria and Eritrea is decreasing.
By far, citizens of Syrian comprised the largest number of immigrants in Denmark in the last one year. The number of Syrians arriving on this European country’s shores was 11,569. The second largest number of immigrants to Denmark was Romanians, who numbered 5,338.
Statistics Denmark has also observed that the number of immigrant Syrian citizens had fallen for the first time in seven years. According to the statistics department, an interesting trend was noted as far as the age and gender make up of Syrian nationals was concerned. It was found that half of them were under the age of 18 and that males under the age of 29 exceeded women belonging to the same age group.
