Immigrants in Australia beware of fake websites offering citizenship forms
Immigrants in Australia must beware of fake websites that are offering citizenship forms. Nimrit (name changed) had applied in early July 2018 for Citizenship of Australia. This was for both herself and her husband. She contacted the Home Affairs Department when she did not hear anything from them for a while.
Nimrit was shocked to hear from the Department that her applications were never received. She was informed that she had probably applied to one of the fake websites.
The website looked very real said Nimrit. As a matter of fact even if one visits now, the website asks to undertake a test for eligibility for citizenship. It also permits it you to furnish the form t1300. This is the exact replica of the DHA form required by the department for Australian citizenship application.
The bank confirmation was the final proof that I had filled the forms on a fake website, said Nimrit. The account for which the fees were paid to was in Spain – Barcelona. In fact, there was even a fee debited for the overseas transaction for both the transfers, she added.
The overall money that Nimrit was duped for was 350$. This includes 180$ for her application as well as 160$ for the application of her husband, as quoted by the SMH.
It was not the lost money that annoyed me the most, said Nimrit. It was really disturbing that an attentive individual like me fell for a scam, she added. It is an awful thing as I had even filled out my personal details, added a disgusted Nimrit. I hope this is not misused, she said.
The fake website also offers Australia Work Visas, Australia Student Visas, and Australia Tourist Visas apart from citizenship.
