DHS to provide $20 million in grants for Citizenship and Integration program

Highlights

  • The Citizenship and Integration Grant Program (CIGP) grants $20 million in grants, an increase of $10 million from last year.

Citizenship and Integration Grant Program (CIGP)

The Citizenship and Integration Grant Program provides integrating services to non-natives to become American citizens. Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas “The program will help in providing additional funding opportunities, for which the organizations can reach more communities and allows the non-citizens can get access to the tools and resources needed for citizenship education.”

These groups help the immigrants to become citizens and merge into the United States, and the new program will support creative initiatives and deepens regional and local collaboration to reach all the demographics in the country.

Citizenship Instruction and Naturalization Application Services:

These services provide an opportunity that can fund public or non-profit organizations offering both naturalization application services and citizenship-related instruction to the immigrants. Around 42 organizations will be awarded up to $300,000 each for two years using this opportunity by USICS. Applications are still due by August 5, 2022.

Community and Regional Integration Network Permit:

This permit can provide an extended opportunity for the organizations that offer integration services for immigrants and those who get into the United States using U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, who were sanctioned asylum, or the immigrants admitted or entered the United States as a Cuban or Haitian entrant.

This grant or permit is provided to the organizations that extend integration services with a great focus on individual programming to certain immigrants, including those who entered into the U.S under the Refugee Admissions Program of Unites States (USRAP), were granted asylum, or were admitted or entered the United States as a Cuban or Haitian entrant, to obtain the skills and knowledge that are required for successful citizenship.

USCIS anticipates awarding 3-6 public or non-profit organizations that have experience in serving the needy for up to $300,000 each for two years using this opportunity. Applications are due by August 5, 2022.

Regional Hub Program:

This new permit is outlined to fund regional or state-wide citizenship to the immigrants that help and support networks that build capacity that can provide direct citizenship.

The applicants serve as a hub of communication and information sharing on citizenship preparation among their affiliates.

USCIS expects to award 5-10 grants up to $1,000,000 each for two years through this opportunity. Applications are due on August 5, 2022.

Innovations in Citizenship Education Program:

Few organizations help in the naturalization process of immigrants by encouraging civic, linguistic, and cultural integration into their communities. USCIS will award innovation grants to organizations that inculcate creative approaches to preparing immigrants. The innovations in Citizenship Education Program are designed to encourage innovation.

USCIS anticipates awarding approximately twenty-five organizations up to $250,000 each for two years using this opportunity. Applications are due by August 5, 2022.

Since 2009, the USCIS Citizenship and Integration Grant Program has allotted $112 million through 513 permits to immigrant-serving organizations.
