Canada plans COVID-19 Vaccine Passports for Permanent & Temporary Residents

Canada plans for COVID-19 vaccine passports for international travel for its residents (citizens, permanent and temporary) by the fall. Officials say that it might be issued in the coming month for international travelers.

Travelers should present the digital proof of vaccination to the border officials to ensure that travelers abide by the health requirements. They can also submit the proof in the ArriveCAN app after returning to Canada.

Individuals without vaccination proof are also allowed to travel, but they need to follow the quarantine measures and regular COVID tests upon their return to Canada, according to IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) statement on August 11, 2021.

The Incredible progress made by Canadians

The Canadian government officials from all the provinces and territories are working together to develop a secure pan-Canadian approach. This is designed as per the advice from the public health officials for providing safety and security for all Canadians.

The new step is announced in the digital press conference by Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino. He also mentioned that Canada has the highest vaccination rate among the G20 group of countries.

"Thanks to the incredible progress that Canadians have made, our country is reopening – gradually, cautiously, and guided by public health," Marco Mendicino applauded.

Providing proof of vaccination has become the key stride for ensuring Canadians travel safely.

Canada is working together with other counties to provide international proof of vaccination through the WHO (World Health Organization), the International Civil Aviation Organization, and the G7. But there is no consent yet.

Fully vaccinated individuals, including Canadians, can travel to Canada but need to submit their current vaccine documentation through ArriveCAN either in English or French to get exemption from the quarantine measures and COVID testing.
