British Columbia invites 74 tech candidates in latest draw

On September 21, 2021, British Columbia PNP invited another 74 tech candidates to apply for being nominated by the province for permanent residence in Canada. British Columbia is among the 9 province and 2 territories in Canada that are a part of the Provincial Nominee Program [PNP]. As this was a BC PNP Tech draw, invitations to apply [ITAs] were issued by the province to tech candidates under any of the 29 key occupations. Earlier known as BC PNP Tech Pilot, BC PNP Tech has been made permanent and accordingly renamed.

Generally, those successful in securing a PNP nomination – though any of the 80 PNP immigration pathways available – will then have to apply to the federal Government of Canada for permanent residence. Canada PR applications are processed through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC]. A PNP nomination, through any of the IRCC Express Entry linked streams, assures an IRCC invitation to apply for that candidate. Applying for Canadian permanent residence through the federal Express Entry system is by invitation-only. While you can create an Express Entry profile, you cannot submit your Canada PR application via Express Entry unless invited by IRCC to do so. A PNP nomination is worth 600 CRS points for a IRCC Express Entry candidate. Here, by CRS is implied the Comprehensive Ranking System used for ranking candidates against one another while in the IRCC pool. The higher the CRS score, the higher the chances of that Express Entry candidate being issued an ITA by IRCC.

What is the BC PNP Tech?

BC PNP Tech is not a separate stream or category. Under BC PNP Tech, invitations are issued to tech candidates – with a job offer in BC in any of the 29 key occupations – under the existing immigration pathways of SI and EEBC. To be eligible for BC PNP Tech, the job offer must be for a minimum of 1 year, with “at least 120 days remaining at the time of application to BC PNP”.
