Was Brexit all about controlling Overseas Immigration?

It is often said that people who voted for Brexit didn’t know what was at stake. Their decision is criticized by many, saying they didn’t understand the importance of staying in EU. Brexiteers explained that racism was one of the main reasons why they left EU. However, more than often Overseas Immigration is believed to be the cause of Brexit.

However, as reported by The Guardian, the number-one reason was a principle that British people held on to firmly. According to it, the decisions about the UK must be taken in the UK. The control cannot be in someone else’s hands.

The second reason was to get the control back over Overseas Immigration. It was, of course, not completely inseparable from the first one. Also, it meant they wanted control of the borders too. To many British people, voting meant controlling Overseas Immigration. However, Brexiteers believe Sovereignty was a bigger reason.

There is a very fine line between Sovereignty and controlling Overseas Immigration. People tend to think Brexit was all about controlling Overseas Immigration. But Brexiteers have always denied it.

The Stop Brexit crew says that EU free movement doesn’t need to end. Instead, they can curb Overseas Immigration and rights to work. Andrew Adonis, the new anti-Brexit loon believes this strategy should keep Overseas Immigration under check.

Prime Minister Theresa May supported Brexiteers. She emphasized that Overseas Immigration is a big issue for the British people. The UK should be in control of who enters the country. However, this issue is being overhyped. As a result, it undermined the greater issue called Sovereignty.

Overseas Immigration has apparently suppressed wages in the UK as per the Brexiteers. On the other hand, it has raised house prices. This, in turn, had an impact on the UK economy. However, the anti-Brexit people have denied this news saying only some hundreds of Immigrants cannot suppress wages. They agreed that the UK is a low-wage economy. But Overseas Immigration alone could not have caused it.

On the whole, Brexit is believed to be more complex than it looks. Overseas Immigration was not the only reason that prompted it.
