BC PNP holds two draws, 459 immigration candidates invited

British Columbia sent out 459 invitations and held two separate draws forcandidates falling under the Skills Immigration (SI) and Express Entry BC (EEBC) category of the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). The draws were held on February 16, 2021.

The scores for this draw ranged between 85 and 104 points. Candidates who fall under these two occupations - retail and wholesale trade managers, and restaurant and food service managers have started receiving invitations as well. Till date, 35 have been sent. The reason for conducting the draw under this category, B.C said, was due tothe high number of registrants.

Beginning 2021 till date, the province has held nine draws and the total number of invitations issued so far is 1,308. In a related announcement candidates from tourism, hospitality, retail and personal services occupations will soon receive invitations.

In a press release datedFebruary 2, 2021,BC PNPannounced relaxation in International students’ norms falling under the SI category.

The BC PNP has restarted issuing invitations to apply (ITA) to 31 occupations. The ITAs for these occupations were temporarily suspended earlier.

About BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP)

High-demand foreign workers and experienced entrepreneurs can gain permanent residency in B.C through the BC PNP program. There are three major categories under which candidates can apply:

1. Skills Immigration (SI)

Skilled and semi-skilled workers in high-demand occupations in B.C fall under this category.

• Skilled workers may have prior work experience.
• Entry Level and Semi-Skilled applicants need prior B.C work experience.
• International graduates might not need any work experience. It entirely depends on the job being offered.

The application process for the SI category includes registering and applying online for the BC       PNP. Post which, a paper application process is required for permanent residency (PR).

2. Express Entry BC

If you have relevant work experience and meet other requirements like education and language, then you can apply under the Express Entry BC category. This is a quicker way for eligible skilled workers planning to immigrate. Entry through this category is via points-based invitation system. The registration and application process for both BC PNP and Canada PR is web-based.

3. Entrepreneur Immigration

This category can be sub-classified into three streams:

1. Entrepreneurs who plan to expand their business in B.C. This is a points-based invitation system. Entrepreneurs should have the defined personal and investment funds.
2. Entrepreneurs who want to start a new business can apply via the Entrepreneur Immigration – Regional Pilot program.
3. Companies looking to expand and looking to get Canada PR for prominent employees can also explore this category.
