Australia and Canada enhance age for Work Visas via WHP & IEC

Australia and Canada have mutually agreed to enhance the age for Work Visas for their agreement for youth mobility. This is under Canada’s International Experience Canada and Australia’s Working Holiday Program. It will be effective from 1 November 2018.

The age ceiling for Australians inclined to participate in the IEC and Canadians in WHP was 30. It has now been enhanced to 35 years, as quoted by the SBS. Australians are a major participating group in the IEC program. They are specifically fond of the regions in Western Canada. This includes Banff, AB, and Whistler, BC that are winter resort destinations.

The increase in age ceiling for Work Visas under IEC will be helpful to several Australians. They can now freshly outline their career in the Maple Leaf Nation. Alternatively, they can also enjoy casual employment for a while in Canada.

Australians are also entitled to unlimited Work Visas for Canada under the IEC. In fact, they are the only nationality participating in IEC to enjoy this privilege. The expansion of the age ceiling will increase the numbers of Australians who can qualify for the program. It will however not affect the Australians individual chances of obtaining a Work Visa.

Other nations participating in IEC have yearly allocation. The demand has outnumbered supply in few IEC pools in the recent years. Thus, there now may be numbers of Australians employed in Canada in the years ahead.

The Working Holiday Program is by far the most renowned category under IEC. It permits Australians to reside for 2 years in Canada. They can switch employers and locations if they are inclined to do so.
