The Australian Capital Territory has released results of the latest Canberra Matrix Invitation round.

On February 1, 2022, the highest-ranked Matrix in each of the occupation groups received invitations to apply for an ACT nomination. The next invitation round is expected to be held before February 18, 2022.

The cut-off scores were as per the occupation demand and annual cap on that occupation.

The higher the demand, the higher the rank of the Matrix score invited.

An Overview of the Canberra Matrix Invitation Rounds in 2022
Date of Invitation For Invitations Matrix scores
February 1, 2022 ACT 190 Nomination 8 80 to 120 points

Occupying part of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), Canberra is the federal capital of Australia. Canberra is situated around 240 kilometers southwest of Sydney.

Originally a small settlement, the name Canberra is said to be derived from an Aboriginal term meaning “meeting place”.

The ACT Government has the flexibility to address labour market requirements and skills shortages in the Territory through the Australian Migration Program’s state/territory nominated stream.

A fixed number of nomination spaces are allocated in each financial year by the Australian Government to the states and territories.

2021-2022 ACT Nomination Places
Annual Allocation   Total 2,000 nomination spaces
Skilled Work Regional (subclass 491) visa 1,400 places
Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa 600 places
Total approvals, as on February 1, 2022 1,174 nomination places ·       ACT 491 nomination: 822 approvals ·       ACT 190 nomination: 352 approvals
Remaining allocation 826 nomination places ·       ACT 491 nomination: 578 places (pro rata 116 per month) ·       ACT 190 nomination: 248 places (pro rata 50 per month)

ACT nomination triggers your visa invitation from the Department of Home Affairs. The specific requirements of the Department of Home Affairs for the relevant visa must be met by the individual.

How can I get ACT nomination for my Australia skilled migration visa?

ACT can nominate applicants for two types of skilled migration visas in the ACT –

  • Skilled Work Regional Visa (subclass 491) (provisional)
  • Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190)

The basic eligibility of the Department of Home Affairs for the selected visa must be met, including – (1) age below 45 years at the time of being invited to apply, (2) a minimum of 65 points on the Australia Skilled Immigration Points Calculator, (3) a nominated occupation on the list of eligible skilled occupations, and (4) a valid and positive skills assessment for your occupation.
