Federal draws under the Express Entry system are held by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Launched in 2015, Express Entry is an application process for skilled immigrants that intend to settle in Canada as permanent residents and be a part of the Canadian labour market.

Applying for Canada PR through IRCC Express Entry is by invitation-only. Those issued invitations to apply, in the federal draws held from time to time, must submit their application for permanent residence within the next 60 days.

An online system, Canada’s Express Entry is used by IRCC for managing applications for permanent residence from skilled workers. https://youtu.be/FOUQZeqvkwE Three of the main economic immigration programs of Canada are managed through the Express Entry system.

Express Entry programs [1] Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) [2] Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) [3] Canadian Experience Class (CEC) The Provincial Nominee Program of Canada, also referred to as Canadian PNP, also has various Canada immigration pathways or ‘streams’ linked with IRCC Express Entry.

A PNP nomination is worth 600 ranking points for an Express Entry candidate. The ranking in the Express Entry pool of candidates is determined as per the 1,200-point Comprehensive Ranking System.

Basic Step-wise Process

STEP 1: Eligibility

The first step for creating an Express Entry profile is that of establishing eligibility for the same. Each of the programs have their own specific requirements. To be eligible for the FSWP, 67 points will have to be scored by the candidate as per the Skilled Immigration Points Calculator. A candidate might be eligible for more than one programs. In such situations, the candidate will be invited to apply for one program based on the order – CEC, FSWP, then FSTP. For example, if a candidate meets the criteria for all three programs, they will be invited through the CEC. If eligible for more than one programs, the candidate cannot select the program that they will be invited under. The Express Entry system sorts profiles and issues invitations on the basis of the information entered by them.

STEP 2: Documentation

If found to be eligible, the next step is that of getting the documentation together. Do keep in mind that certain specific documents will be required at the different stages of the application process. There is no requirement for uploading documents at the time of the submission of an Express Entry profile. However, information might have to be provided from certain documents, such as passport, proof of funds, job offer in Canada, language test results etc.

STEP 3: Profile

The Express Entry profile of the candidate is wherein a Canada immigration hopeful gives IRCC information regarding themselves. If eligible, the candidate will be accepted into the Express Entry pool of candidates. Profiles in the pool are ranked as per their individual CRS scores. The higher the CRS score of a candidate, the brighter the chances of their being issued an invitation to apply by IRCC.

STEP 4: Receiving ITA

An Express Entry candidate can submit their application for Canadian permanent residence when specifically invited by IRCC to do so. Invitations to apply are sent out as per the federal draws held.

STEP 5: Applying for Canada PR

If invited, a candidate will have 60 days for submitting their complete application to IRCC.

IRCC Express Entry has a standard processing time of within 6 months, provided the submitted applications are complete. A complete application is that which has - [1] no information missing, and [2] requires no further documentation.
