Express Entry: IRCC Invites 700 Candidates in All-Program Draw

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has conducted an all-program draw, inviting 700 candidates through the Express Entry system. Candidates must meet a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 511 to be eligible for an invitation.

IRCC has announced that through category-based selection they will invite 1,500 healthcare workers on July 5, 2023.

Additionally, IRCC is expected to extend invitations to applicants with work experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) sector. This will mark the first-ever category-based selection Express Entry draw specifically targeting STEM professions.

Category-Based Selection Draws

The category-based selection draws have brought a new type in Express Entry system. These draws aim to target applicants within specific work area or those having other high-demand skills. IRCC has identified 6 new categories for applicants:

  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) sector
  • Healthcare
  • Trades (Carpenters, Contractors and Plumbers)
  • Agri-food  and Agriculture
  • Transport
  • Strong French-language Proficiency

Category-based selection draws were made possible through changes in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act in June 2022. These changes empower the immigration minister to invite economic immigrants based on specific attributes that align with Canada's economic priorities or promote the French language outside of Quebec.
