Who can sponsor for a Canada PR?

The individuals interested in sponsoring a Canada PR must be permanent residents or Canadian citizens. The individuals must meet the following criteria to sponsor:

 

  • Be 18 years of age
  • Reside in Canada or have a plan to return to Canada once the legal spouse is a permanent resident of Canada
  • Be financially stable and willing to cater for the financial requirements of the family member for a minimum of three years

Whom can I sponsor to come to Canada?

Canadian PR holders can sponsor their family members, and they include:

 

  • Spouse or Conjugal Partner
  • Parents or Grandparents
  • Child or Other Dependents 
  • Orphaned brother, sister, nephew, niece, or grandchild
  • Other relatives (under exceptional circumstances as a “Lonely Canadian”)

Who is not eligible to sponsor?

Canada PR holders are not eligible to sponsor in some cases, and they are as follows:

  • Are in prison currently 
  • Not paid child support or alimony 
  • Are declared bankrupt and are not released yet
  • Have been provided with social assistance for other reasons 
  • Have failed to pay the immigration loan or have made delayed payments or missed them
  • Have sponsored a relative previously and has not adhered to the terms of the agreement
  • Have been a convict of a violent crime, sexual offence, or offence against a relative or any sexual offence

What is the cost required to sponsor a family member in Canada?

 

Canada PR holders sponsoring spouse and children must pay $150 for each individual child included in the application. If they are sponsoring partner of a relative, then they must pay an extra $1,050.
