Check if you can work in this gap:
You must try and see if you can work during the cap-gap period. This is the period when the work authorization and F-1 status of the student expire. It ends on 1 October unless terminated, as quoted by the Study International.
Applicants must file the H-1B application on time along with the request petition for the transition to H-1B from F-1 status. The current authorization for employment can be extended till the first day of the fresh fiscal year as per USCIS.
Do not travel outside the US:
If an overseas student travels outside the US during this gap period, it can be risky actually. It is usually better to avoid travel outside the US save in emergency situations.
Several factors are taken into consideration in this scenario. It includes the duration of your study course and the status of your H-1B application. In case if you travel overseas prior to approval of a change of status by USICS, it will result in abandoning of the change of a status portion of your case.
Refer to your DOS Official if you are unsure:
Eligibility to travel and work during cap-gap extension for every student depends highly on the specifications of the individual case. You may avail information online or from your seniors and friends. It is always prudent to speak to your Official of Designated School prior to taking any crucial decisions.
