Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the owner and administrator of the GMAT has decided to conduct the GMAT exam online as a temporary solution for candidates to take the test in their homes.

Taking the online exam involves preparing for the GMAT at home. Here are some tips to help you prepare for the GMAT.

Choose a designated place to study

In your preparation, the place of study plays a crucial role. If you don't have a designated study location, it can hamper the productivity of your planning. When you regularly change the study location you will end up taking extra time to get used to the new zone every time.

Maintain focus while studying

Focus is the key to having an efficient home GMAT preparedness. During preparation, it's easy to get distracted and lose your focus. Notifications on your mobile phone is sufficient to take your attention away. Instead of just being physically present in your study zone, you need to make sure you 're focused mentally.

Take regular breaks

Taking timed breaks impacts the consistency of the training positively. Taking breaks will improve the overall efficiency and help you concentrate more, according to a medical report.

Make sure your breaks from the study are short and regular. Long breaks will take your attention away. You will fail to return to study mood after taking a longer break, as it disrupts the rhythm of learning.

 Make a study plan

Make a study plan based on the time available. Make sure to be rational while allocating time for studying. Make the right estimate of the time needed to plan. You can be discouraged by stringent and strained plans and will affect your performance. You 're meant to find a balance between work, social life and home. A healthy lifestyle will keep you focused, and your concentration will improve.

There may be a few times where you can't keep to the schedule. When you can't find time during weekdays, make up for that by putting extra effort over the weekend.

Learn the most frequently tested topics

Although it would be ideal to be an expert on every single subject that needs to be studied, you can start by concentrating on topics that are tested most frequently.

Work on your weak areas

Being aware of subjects that may need some extra attention will help you focus your study. It's easy to brush off a subject because you're afraid to learn it, but by really studying the principles and tactics,  you will find that those hard topics aren't as difficult as you thought!

Practice regularly

The best way to apply your study is to do tons and tons of practice questions. You will familiarize yourself with the different ways that the same topic can be tested, and you will uncover weaknesses that will help you hone in on areas to improve. Don't be discouraged by mistakes in the test. Being able to understand why you have made certain will help you avoid them in the future.

While setting aside a large chunk of time to study can be difficult, you should definitely try to simulate the experience of the test day at least once.
