When you prepare for the SAT, short for Scholastic Aptitude Test or Scholastic Assessment Test, you need to know your current aptitude for that test.
Devote your first week to do just that by taking SAT practice tests to help you identify your strong points and weaknesses. It will also help you know how far you need to travel to get your desired score.
After that, you need to get down to studying for each section of the SAT – Evidence-based Reading and Writing, and Mathematics.
Take another practice test for the SAT in the second week. See how much you have progressed. Make a note of all the drawbacks that you need to overcome and begin focusing on them this week.
Use the results of the practice tests you took before to study accordingly. Take a mock SAT practice test, review your progress, and keep studying as per the study schedule you had prepared.
As this is the final week, focus on your strengths. This is not the time to work on your weaknesses.
Take another mock SAT practice test in one go, review your performance, and focus on topics where there is scope for improvement. Improve on the strategies you would have picked up for each section.
Take a day off before the actual test day to calm and soothe your nerves. Treat it as a normal day as the one before you begin preparing for the SAT exam.
Finally, when the test day arrives, give your best shot.
Along the way, memorize the instructions for each section of the test. The SAT format will be the same for every exam.
Make use of unconventional methods to prepare for the test. For the English section, in particular, watch TV shows, read editorial passages, listen to podcasts, and observe the native-English speakers – how they talk and their intonations.
