How to convert a German Job Seeker Visa to a German Work Permit?

The Germany Job Seeker is meant for job seekers to migrate and look for employment opportunities in the country. The visa lets you stay in Germany for up to 6 months and find relevant jobs based on your profile. Once you secure a job under a German employer, you must convert the job seeker visa into a German Work Permit. The German Work Visa lets you work and reside in Germany for up to four years.

Types of German Work Permits

After getting a job while on a Germany Job Seeker visa, you will be required to apply for a German Work Permit. Following are the two types of employment visas you can apply for after securing an employment offer in Germany:

  • EU Blue Card: This is a special residence permit that allows non-EU nationals to work and settle in an EU country. The validity of an EU Blue Card is 4 years and can be renewed later. You can also bring your family members along with you on an EU Blue Card.
  • Employment Residence Permit: This is a temporary residence permit allowing holders to stay and work in Germany. It is issued to employees who have secured an employment contract under a German employer. This is valid till your employment contract expires and can be extended later. You can bring your family to Germany via the Family Reunion Visa. This visa is mostly sponsored by German employers after you have received an employment offer from them.
