"Moving Forward Together" – Canada's 2030 Agenda National Strategy was launched to support the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim to eradicate poverty, protect the climate, and ensure citizens live in peace and prosperity. Goal 10 aims to 'Reduce inequality within and among countries.' The key aspects include reducing income inequality by ensuring that the bottom 40% of the population gets an income growth rate higher than the national average, addressing inequalities among countries, and promoting social, political, and economic inclusivity.
Cities account for nearly 80% of global GDP but still have the largest economic inequalities. Most of today's inequalities are the product of poor economic growth and planning and rapid and unregulated urbanization processes. Instead of reducing poverty, poorly controlled urban processes will deepen economic inequalities between. Through the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, the Canadian government aims to bridge the gap between rural and urban areas, thereby reducing inequality.
The Canadian government encourages philanthropic organizations, private sector firms, and private investors to collaborate on issues like sustainable development, resource quality, renewable energy, the regenerative use of natural resources, social security for workers, and the adoption of a circular economic approach to help achieve the SDGs.
