Germany Study Visa

Germany has emerged as a nation chiefly attractive for Overseas Students and Entrepreneurs. This is as per the latest study by the OECD - Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

The study by OECD was presented in Berlin. It was conducted with assistance from the Bertelsmann Foundation. It found that Germany is ranked 3rd among the 36 OECD nations as an attractive destination for overseas students.

Diverse factors play a crucial role in the high ranking for Germany, elaborates the report. These include opportunities to work after graduation, comparatively low living costs, and low tuition fees.

The classic immigration nations – Canada and New Zealand were more appealing than Germany for Entrepreneurs globally. This is from an international perspective. However, when it comes to Europe only Norway, Sweden and Switzerland are ahead of Germany.

The lower requirement for Germany Entrepreneur Visa needs to be specified here particularly. These have helped in making the nation an appealing destination.

Bertelsmann Foundation CEO Joerg Draeger said that this is really encouraging. Germany as a nation offered excellent opportunities particularly for overseas students, he added.

However, Germany also requires more skilled migrants having an academic background in the short and medium term, said Draeger. Unfortunately, Germany is not specifically attractive for them he added.

Extremely qualified overseas employees do not consider Germany to be especially appealing. This is as per the OECD report, as quoted by the XINHUANET. It ranks 12th amongst the most appealing destinations for skilled professionals with a Post-graduate or Doctoral degree. The first place in this list is occupied by Australia. It is followed by Switzerland and Sweden.

The OECD report outlines one reason for the low ranking of Germany amongst the highly qualified skilled immigrants. It is that the overseas qualifications were greatly devalued often on the labour market in Germany.

Director for Employment, Labour and Social Affairs OECD Stefano Scarpetta shared views in this regard. Several factors apart from immigration laws affect the appeal of a nation, he added. The speed of Visa approval is a crucial factor for professionals. However, the laws pertaining to children and partners are also crucial for several highly skilled immigrants, added the Director.

Nevertheless, Germany ranks among the leaders in the international market. This is when it comes to the speed of adjudicating Residence Permits or Visas for highly qualified immigrants.

German Economic Institute Expert Wido Geis-Thoene was critical that Germany lacks language courses.
