An Overview of the Express Entry system | |
What is Express Entry? | Launched in January 2015, Express Entry is an application management system used for Canadian permanent residence applications from skilled workers. |
Why “Express Entry”? | Facilitates the federal government of Canada to manage the intake of Canada PR applications under key economic immigration programs, also facilitating the selection of candidates with the most likelihood of succeeding in Canada. |
What programs come under Express Entry? | · Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) · Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) · Canadian Experience Class (CEC) Some immigration streams under Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) are linked with IRCC Express Entry. |
How Express Entry works? | STEP 1: Profile creation, denoting an expression of interest in Canada immigration through Express Entry. STEP 2: Invitations to apply (ITA) sent out in federal draws held from time to time. 60 days allotted to submit an online application to IRCC for permanent residence in Canada. |
How soon can I get my Canada PR visa through Express Entry? | 80% of applications are processed within six months of application submission. |
What is the basic step-wise process to apply? | STEP 1: Check eligibility. 67-points must be scored to be able to create an Express Entry profile. STEP 2: Getting your documentation ready. STEP 3: Profile submission, entering IRCC pool of candidates STEP 4: Receiving an invitation and applying for permanent residence |
What's new in 2020? | Service limitations and disruptions, along with border restrictions led to IRCC to adapt to the new conditions presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Changes in 2020 include – · ITA validity temporarily changed from 60 to 90 days. Those receiving an ITA after June 29, 2021 must submit Canada PR application within 60 days. · Since March 2020, IRCC has focused more on candidates that had a higher likelihood of already being within Canada. · Increase in number of ranking points available to French-speaking and bilingual candidates. With effect from October 20, 2020, French-speaking candidates get 25 points (up from 15), and bilingual candidates to get 50 points (up from 30). |
