Laying down the aim of building a "healthier, more resilient future”, the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau has – on December 16, 2021 – issued a total of 38 mandate letters, one for each of the Cabinet ministers.
Available publicly, mandate letters lay down the commitments that each of the ministers will be expected to accomplish, as well as the challenges to be addressed in their role.
Mandate letters outline the expectations that the Canadian PM has from each of the Ministers, along with giving Canadians a clear idea as to how the Government of Canada plans on delivering its agenda.
As per the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Mandate Letter, there is a need to bring in more newcomers to all regions of Canada. Newcomers that will support the economic recovery of Canada from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Strengthening of family reunification and the reduction of application processing time – especially for those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic – are also on the agenda. |
As per the mandate letter by PM Justin Trudeau, certain commitments are to be achieved as part of Canada’s new immigration priorities.

Key commitments to be met by the Canadian Immigration Minister in the coming year include –
Canada is well-set on its way to complete economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic. Canada’s GDP is expected to return to pre-pandemic levels by the first quarter of 2022. |
As per the Economic and Fiscal Update 2021 – recently released by the Department of Finance Canada and announced in a December 14, 2021 News Release – “Canada has exceeded its goal of creating a million jobs, well ahead of expectations; Canada has the second-fastest jobs recovery in the G7; and Canada has recouped 106 per cent of the jobs lost at the depths of the pandemic ...”.
