Can an international student work in Australia?

Yes, an international student can work in Australia through a Graduate Temporary Subclass 485 visa. The Subclass 485 visa allows an international student with a student visa in the last six months to get full-time work rights after completing their studies. It enables international students to gain work experience in Australia.

However, there is one more way to work in Australia as an international student if they hold a student visa that allows them to work in Australia; with a Student visa, an international student can only work:

  • Work up to 48 hours every two weeks
  • Unlimited hours over the semester break

International Students mostly choose Subclass 485 as it allows them to gain work experience in Australia for an unlimited period of 6 years.
