University of Zurich, Switzerland

The University of Zurich (UZH) was the first university that a democratic government set up in Europe. 

Established in 1833, it is the largest Swiss university. It offers with its seven faculties more than 200 study programs at bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate levels. 

UZH is one of the most esteemed research educational institutions in Europe. It is reputed particularly in the disciplines of biology, economics, genetics, immunology, and neurosciences, among others. 

At the undergraduate level, even though the courses have Swiss Standard German as the medium of instruction, all postgraduate courses are taught in English as well. 

The university houses more than 23,250 students, of whom more than 5,000 are foreign nationals. 

The University of Zurich is ranked #91 overall globally as per the QS World University Rankings 2024. 

All three of the campuses of UZH are located close to Zurich’s city center and can be easily accessed by public transport. It has my libraries, which store more than 5 million volumes. 

UZH also houses twelve museums, which, together with the libraries, are accessible to the general public. It is closely associated with other Swiss universities and many others all over Europe. 

Known for its liberal and progressive policies, it was the first German-speaking university on the planet to grant a doctorate to a female student.

It has been associated with 12 Nobel Laureates, among whom are Albert Einstein and Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, the discoverer of X-rays.

The tuition fee to pursue an MBA is around €65,200. UZH charges €1,318 to €1,380 for postgraduate courses in science, healthcare, medicine, and arts. The average cost of accommodation in Zurich per year is $300 per year for international students.  

It has two main intakes for international students, one in September and the other in February.

Eligibility criteria for international students

The eligibility criteria at the University of Zurich (UZH) for international students to study a postgraduate program are as follows.  

  • An undergraduate degree of a minimum of three years 
  • Academic transcripts
  • A valid passport 
  • A CV or resume  
  • The GRE test score  
  • Statement of purpose (SOP)
  • A letter of recommendation (LOR)
