Thousands of global engineers Immigrate to Canada annually. They are employed in diverse engineering sectors such as mechanical, manufacturing, industrial, electrical and civil engineering, representing about 12% of licensed Canadian engineers. Engineers Canada had recently released a survey of labor market highlighting crucial trends for Immigrant Engineers in Canada. ‘Projections 2020: The Labor Market for Engineers in Canada’ provides an insight into the geographical markets and engineering disciplines. It also gives a prediction of global scenario for engineering sector, quotes Times of India.
Engineers Canada’s Director of communications and public affairs Mark Bourgeois has said that scarcity of engineers possessing expert experience above ten years is being faced by Canada. Engineers Canada is the federal organization of twelve territorial and provincial organizations in Canada that standardizes engineering practices in Canada.
Mark Bourgeois also gave a reference of the report that by the year 2020, the number of engineers that will be retiring in Canada will be 95, 000. This will create a scarcity of skills that will not be catered by graduates in Canada or trained global graduates. The imbalances between demand and supply will increase drastically, added Bourgeois.
He further elaborated that the labor markets in Canada must innovate ways to achieve a balance with respect to workers that retire and offering training for fresh graduates and Overseas Immigrant engineers who express interest to be employed in Canada.
On the whole, it is projected that the demand for engineers in Canada will increase with engineering and architectural related services having the maximum demand. The most usual jobs that are advertised in Canada include project engineer, an electrical engineer, and mechanical engineer.
