The future of Overseas Work - Job skills not Degrees

The future of Overseas Work will be about Job skills and not the College Degrees. This has been revealed by the Freelancing in the US 2018 survey. 93% of the Freelancers with a 4-year College Degree said that skills training were helpful. Meanwhile, just 79% of them said that their College education was helpful to their current work.

The World Economic Forum reveals that 65% of the children enrolling in Primary School will get into jobs that do not exist today. As a result, new and non-conventional education options will proliferate.

Additionally, 70% of permanent Freelancers took part in skills training in the last 6 months. This was in comparison with just 49% permanent non-freelancers, as quoted by the CNBC.

The 5th Annual Survey was held by Edelman Intelligence the research firm. It was co-commissioned by Freelancers Union and Upwork. 6,001 US workers had participated in this survey.

The latest data points out to something much bigger. The conventional higher education system is increasingly becoming a risky and outdated path. This is due to the rapid change in technology and the increasing costs of education. The college education cost is so high at present that we have come to a tipping point. The debt incurred for higher education is not often surpassed by potential future earnings.

The latest data from Upwork only confirms the acceleration of job skills for Overseas Work. The Quarterly Skills Index reveals that 70% of the skills that are growing fastest are new to the index.

Freelancers, the fastest growing segment of the workforce today have realized above the majority that education does not cease.  It is a process that lasts life-long. What is worth embracing is the mindset, diploma or not.
