Finland Criminal Police and Border Authority are probing the alleged Visa fraud at the Embassy of Finland in Ankara at Turkey. This has been revealed by the media reports in Finland.
Finland comes under the Schengen Area. Its Visa permits travel across Western Europe except for the UK. 3 Embassy employees are supposed to have been part of arranging unlawful entry. 2 of them have also been accused of misusing the role of civil servants, as quoted by the Xinhua net.
Antti Leskela Boarder Guards Senior Lieutenant said that the Visa fraud is under investigation. It covers 100s of Visas offered over a long period. The nationalities of the recipients were however not specified by him.
The investigating team also did not reveal whether the suspects are overseas nationals or Finland citizens. They, however, said that the suspects were locally recruited by the Embassy and were not diplomats who were dispatched. One among them was detained while at a stopover in Finland, they added.
The confiscation from the Foreign Affairs Ministry was confirmed by the District Court in Eastern Uusimaa. This was of the entire Visa archive of the Embassy of Ankara. Documents weighing 2,800 kilos have been brought to Finland. The probe is likely to be finished in spring.
The Head of Consular Services Pasi Tuominen said that upon the completion of the probe, internal conclusions will be drawn.
