US E-2 Investor Visa now officially open to Israelis

The US E-2 Investor Visa is now officially open to Israelis following delay of several years. The Tel Aviv US Embassy has now formally started accepting E-2 Visa applications. The Israeli Embassy in the US has also now started accepting reciprocal Visa applications for US nationals also known as the B-5 Visa.

The US E-1 Treaty Trade Visa has been accessible to the citizens of Israel from April 1954.

The process of offering US E-2 Investor Visa had started 7 years back. The then US President Barack Obama had signed a law to this effect in 2012. It has now been closed after Israel and the US reached a deal.

Obama had signed a law that required implementing a bilateral treaty for investment with Israel. This was under the condition that the Government of Israel agrees to a reciprocal agreement for immigration for US nationals. However, the Government of Israel took 2 years to approve the reciprocal Visa, as quoted by the NY Times.

The US E-2 Investor Visa access for Israelis was further delayed for 4 years. This is because the two nations were trying to reach an agreement on nature of reciprocity for the Visas.

The commemoration ceremony was held on 6th May to mark the investment treaty agreement between the US and Israel. The US E-2 Visa and Israel B-5 Visa are now available from 1 May 2019.

Tsvi Kan-Tor Israel-America Chamber of Commerce Visas Committee Chair said that he has been following the process of legislation for Work Visas for years now. This includes the E-2 Visa specifically. Undoubtedly this is the right solution for Israeli entrepreneurs and the hi-tech sector, he added.

Kan-Tor said that the E-2 Visa has diverse advantages that are not present in Provisional Work Visas. It is inclusive of no requirement for business seniority, minimum wage, experience or an academic degree. Additionally, it offers US Work Visa for the partners and permits residence outside the US, added Kan-Tor.
