The UK immigration targets must be scrapped post-Brexit according to the Confederation of British Industry, the leading business group. The UK must also continue with permitting Visa-free arrival to the EU nations, added CBI.

UK businesses need a new immigration policy said the CBI. It must be ensured that immigration is controlled but the UK must also remain open to skills that it needs. This implies that blunt immigration targets must be ended. It must also make it easier for UK firms to sponsor non-EU workers said the CBI.

The immigration policy of the UK needs a shift said the Confederation of British Industry. It must move away from reducing the immigration targets. On the other hand, it must focus on ensuring that those arriving in the UK positively contribute to the economy, it added.

The CBI report draws evidence 129,000 firms across 18 industries in the UK, as quoted by the Independent Co UK.  It demands the simplest possible travel arrangements for all UK and EU nationals.

The findings of the CBI have coincided with the ‘Drop the Target’ campaign by the Independent. This is being run in collaboration with the campaign group Open Britain. It seeks to replace the blunt immigration policy of reduction with a more constructive policy.

Deputy Director-General of CBI Josh Hardie said that the debate no longer remains theoretical. It is about the future of the UK. Control and openness cannot be presented as opposites, he added.

Several UK sectors are already facing labor crunch, said the Deputy Director-General of CBI. This ranges from Software Engineers to Nurses. Thus quick and evidence-based action is required, he added.
