The UAE has launched a new “Residency” service in partnership with the GDRFA (General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs) in Dubai. The service has been launched by Smart Dubai through its Dubai Now application and e-services platform. Residents of the UAE may access the services even through their smartphones.

The Residency Service allows UAE residents to facilitate the transactions of Residency Visas. The new service is efficient and flexible with a processing time of as less as 40 minutes. It takes just 10 minutes to complete a residency application. Approval takes anywhere between 30 minutes and two business days.

Dr Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr is the Director General of Smart Dubai. The new Residency Service offered through the Dubai Now app is in line with the Dubai Paperless Strategy 2021 which aims to digitise all internal and external government transactions. The UAE plans to establish itself as a paperless administration by December 2021. It plans to save more than one billion pieces of paper which the Dubai Govt. uses in a year.

Major Gen. Mohd. Ahmed Al Marri is the Director General of GDRFA Dubai. He said that all residency services are only available through UAE’s smart channels and the “Amer” service centres located in the UAE. The Residency Services include issuance, renewals, amendments and cancellation of residencies. It also includes changes and transfer of sponsorship.

Major Gen. Al Marri also noted that applicants can now complete their visa application in minutes and submit it via the smart app. The processing time for approval is also greatly reduced provided all the requirements are met.

Ever since the service was announced last month, 350 people have used the Dubai Now app to issue or renew Residency Visas.

The new service helps you save nearly Dh 200 in fees which is needed with every Residency application. It also helps save around Dh 100 on visa renewals which are generally printing fees.

There are now 27 government services available on the Dubai Now app. The services include sectors like residency, education, housing, transportation and charity donations.

These services were introduced by Smart Dubai in collaboration with:

  • General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs, Dubai
  • of Land and Property, Dubai
  • Knowledge of Human Development Authority
  • Roads and Transport Authority
  • Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation
