The UAE reminds that Transit Visas cannot be extended

The UAE reminded that travellers transiting through the UAE could not extend or renew their Transit Visas. This was confirmed by the FAIC (Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship).

There are two types of UAE Transit Visas:

• A 48-hour Transit Visa. There is no fee for the same.
• A 96-hour Transit Visa. The visa fee is Dh 50.

It is to be noted that UAE Transit Visas are sponsored by airlines based in the UAE. Tourists who are passing through the UAE on their way to another destination need to get a Transit Visa.

You must have the following to get a Transit Visa:

• For a 48-hour Transit Visa, you must have a passport which is valid for at least 3 months. For a 96-hour Transit Visa, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months.
• Your photo
• An onward ticket to your other destination. This ticket should be other than the one from the country that you are coming from.

If you have made your travel arrangements through a travel agency, they may help you get the Transit Visa. However, all Transit Visas are routed through the airlines.

Some Indian nationals may be exempted from a Transit Visa. If you are an Indian national holding a US Green Card, you do not need a UAE Transit Visa. Similarly, if you hold a Residency Visa for the UK or the EU, you are exempted from a Transit Visa. Holders of such visas may live in the UAE for up to 14 days without a visa.

If you are an Indian national holding a Residence Visa from the US, UK or EU, you need to get a UAE Entry Permit at any port of entry in the UAE. However, your Residence Visa should be valid for more than 6 months when you do so.

 You may go to the Marhaba Service Counter to get your Entry Permit for Dh 100. You need to pay an additional Dh 20 as service charge. Once you get your Entry Permit, you can proceed to passport control. You may stay in the UAE  for up to 14 days. You may also extend your stay in the UAE for up to 28 days by paying a renewal fee of Dh 250 along with a service charge of Dh 20.
