Many individuals aspire to travel to foreign countries for job opportunities or further studies. In a bid to fulfil their dreams many of them become vulnerable to fraud or visa scams that lure them with false promises of an overseas job or course in their dream university.

While some are wary of such fraudsters, many fall prey to such scams and end up losing money and their peace of mind. You can avoid becoming a target of such scams by being aware of the modus operandi of such fraudsters and the warning signs to watch out. After all, being forewarned is the best way to protect yourself.

Look out for these warning signs which indicate that a fraudster might be targeting you.

  • E-mail, post, over the phone and even face to face offers for a visa
  • Offers made in return for payments, provision of personal details or identity documents
  • Persons making such offers claim to know people who influence visa decisions or pose as a registered agent
  • They ask for payments to be made in their name rather than pay the government department directly

When you are aware of these red flags it prepares you better for protection against such fraudsters or becoming a victim of visa scams.

Protect yourself from visa scams:

  • Be wary and suspicious when contacted over phone or mail about a visa you did not apply
  • Approach job offers from foreign countries with caution
  • Identify the correct mail addresses of migration agencies
  • Scrutinize job offers from e-mail accounts that appear fabricated and are sent through personal e-mail accounts
  • Do not give your original identity documents to individuals promising you visas. Consulates or government agencies will never ask you to surrender your original documents, as per The Financial Express.
  • Do not make advance payments to personal bank accounts on the threat of visa application rejection

If you wish to pursue studies or make a career in a foreign country turn to trusted migration agencies that can help you realise your goals.

Remember when chasing your dream to work or study in a foreign country it is better to be safe rather than sorry!
