Sean Fraser Sean Fraser, Canada's new Immigration Minister in Canada, is planning to increase the immigration levels in Canada, even though the country welcomed 46,000 immigrants in October 2021.
Speaking with Bloomberg, the minister said he is prepared to increase Canada’s immigration levels if it is necessary to address labor shortages. Canada is currently experiencing significant job shortages in large part due to fewer immigrants arriving from overseas amid the pandemic.
Canada is currently aiming to complete its immigration plan in welcoming 401,000 immigrants in 2021, 411,000 in 2022, and 421,000 in 2023. https://youtu.be/FMYKBoqyHRo These immigration level plans for the years 2022-2024 will be announced on February 10, 2022. Sean Fraser is not satisfied even though IRCC landed 46,000 immigrants in Canada. He also stated that Canada is taking steps to achieve its 401,000 newcomer target in 2021. IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) shows that 46,315 new permanent residents landed in October, and in September, 45,000 immigrants completed their landings. These numbers represent monthly records for Canada in 2021. In this context, landing means an existing temporary resident of Canada or the candidate having an immigration status to be converted to a permanent residents of Canada. But Canada is still lacking behind in meeting the labor force requirements. As per the statistics, till date, Canada welcomed 313,838 immigrants from January to October this year. It has to land 87,000 more immigrants to meet the Immigration Level Plan 2021. That means 43,500 per month in November and December. The New Immigration Minister also stated that citizenship applications would be soon digitized, and IRCC is also busy with other issues which have slowed down the immigration system. Apart from all these, Sean Fraser is trying hard to bring a positive change in Canada's immigration, even though he is aware that he needs to face many challenges while achieving the immigration target.
