Saudi Arabia

As part of its Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia is indeed opening up for tourists from all over the world.

Article

On September 27, 2019, His Excellency Ahmed Al-Khateeb, Chairman of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Heritage, announced the launch of the tourist visa for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This announcement was made from Ad-Diriyah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Riyadh.

Applications for the tourist visa can be made at any of the Saudi Consulates and Embassies across the world.

In addition, citizens from 49 countries can apply for an e-Visa online or avail a visa on arrival. These electronic visas can either be availed from the dedicated Online Portal or from various electronic kiosks at airports.

Encouraged by the massive response, Saudi Arabia has decided to expand the reach of its e-Visa even further.

Now, travelers from nationalities other than the specified 49 can also apply for an e-Visa, provided that they hold visas from either the U.S., the U.K., or the Schengen Area. There will be no requirement for visiting any Saudi consulate or embassy for the same.

However, visas issued by the U.S., the U.K, or any of the Schengen countries must be tourist or commercial visas.

Referred to as “the instant tourist visa”, e-Visa for Saudi Arabia can easily be procured online. All that you need is –

  • Current passport
  • Valid email address
  • Credit Card or Debit Card
  • Passport-size photograph

The passport must have a validity of a minimum of 6 months from the expected date of arrival in Saudi Arabia.

In most cases, the e-Visa will be delivered – within 3 days from the date of applying – to the email address provided by you.

Do keep in mind that you will have to pay for the mandatory Insurance Policy along with the e-Visa fees.

Saudi Arabia e-Visa will be multiple entry with a 1-year validity period. A maximum stay of 90 days at a time, and 180 days overall are allowed.

Tourism is at the core of Vision 2030. While Phase 1: 2019 to 2022 of the program involves attracting first-time visitors to “discover Saudi”, Phase 2: 2022 onwards will focus on “experience Saudi” instead.
